Amy Got Married!

How lucky are we that we get another gallery from the amazing team at Gillespie Photography?  When brides have similar styles or budgets, vendors tend to see the same faces more than a few times.  We were fortunate enough to meet Trent and Stacy at Amy’s Arapahoe Basin wedding last July.  The following weekend, we ran into them at Lindsey’s Copper Mountain wedding.  Both of these brides had a similar vision, but on different mountains!

We had a blast doing hair and makeup for Amy and her closest friends and family.  We love the natural look that so many of our mountain brides choose.  Hair is kept soft and loose, while make is applied to enhance natural beauty!

With the wildflowers in bloom, Amy and Erik had the most stunning background for their first look!

We’ve seen some really beautiful landscapes, but A-Basin just may be one of our favorites for a wedding ceremony!  Check out this view!

We are really looking forward to more gorgeous mountain weddings this year and hopefully crossing paths with the Gillespies again!

Courtney Got Married!

One of the aspects I love about this career I fell into is that I have the opportunity to not only work with some really amazing people, but I get to travel to some really beautiful locations!  Some locations have me driving a few hours and some are little hidden gems almost in my backyard.

Lower Lake Ranch, located in Pine, Colorado is more than a wedding venue!  The property, which dates back to the 1800’s has fishing, beef for sale and guest accommodations! Oh, yeah, the bridal suite has a red heart shaped hot tub!  Needless to say, getting Courtney ready was a blast, as the champagne was flowing!

As is with Colorado weather, there were some clouds, a little rain and then, of course, some sunshine!  Nothing that a lot of smiles and a few umbrellas couldn’t overcome!

Thank you so much to the talented DGass Photography for sharing Courtney’s day and capturing so many amazing moments!

Wedding Hair & Makeup in Colorado!

Green Mountain Reservoir

It has officially been one month and 9 days since R & R has officially been in Colorado and we couldn’t be happier!  There’s just something about being in the mountains that makes my heart so happy and to be doing what I love here, well, there are no words!

With one wedding under our belts here and a handful of trials, we are off to a great start.  Working on rebuilding the success we have created in Cincinnati has been fun, challenging and a learning experience and we are excited to see the interest with all of the wonderful competition we have out here.

Natalie, owner/hairstylist & makeup artist has finally found a home salon in Golden at Rita J’s .  Natalie offers more than just bridal styling and who better to freshen up your hair before your wedding than your wedding stylist?  Need to touch up your color or brighten some highlights?  Maybe clean up those dead  ends so that your hair looks healthy and fresh?  You can find more information and pricing at http://www.rjsalondenverwest.com/  or call 303/278/1386.

We are happy to welcome Debra Blandon to the team as a wonderful and experiened makeup artist!  Debra’s bio will be posted soon, but in the meantime, you can find a little more about her here:  http://rockymtnbridalshow.com/-Debra%20Blandon%20-%20The%20Complete%20Woman%20Wedding%20Beauty%20Denver%20Colorado%20CO/exhibitor.html?order=alpha&show.id=0&category.id=151&exhibitorcategory.id=120196

It’s Your Wedding Morning…Now What?

You’ve planned and perfected all year (maybe more, maybe less). You’ve triple checked every detail and the timeline is nailed down to the nanosecond. You got an incredible 5 hours of broken sleep; you’re just waiting for your bff’s and beauty team to show up. Now what??? Get the coffee brewing, the champagne chilled and just enjoy the day. Easier said than done, right?

There’s not a lot of blog posts or expert advice on what to expect the morning of your wedding, so we are here to shed some light and take some of the surprise factor out for you!

It’s inevitable, no matter how early you go to bed or how late you get to sleep in, you’re not going to get as much sleep as you hoped. Luckily, the excitement and adrenaline usually take over and you will power through! A lot of our brides tend to imbibe the night before at the rehersal dinner and we say go for it! It is your party, after all! Make sure to drink a lot of water, too! Staying hydrated will do your body and energy level a world of good. Plus, even with amazing professional makeup, dehydrated skin never looks pretty.

You’ve made a timeline for every event & vendor arrival, basically everything except for potty breaks, right? You’ve been debating making one for your hair & makeup team…what should you do? Consult your vendors. R & R aren’t huge fans of timelines for a couple of reasons. If your bridal party is going to be hanging out, then making a timeline is a waste of energy as they should be ready to go when we say “NEXT”. If you have girls that can’t hang out all day, then giving them a general time of when to show up is a must! Hair and makeup time slots run in 30-45 minute increments and never exactly on time, so, if we are running a little bit behind and not exactly on the schedule, it just adds to the stress. You can guarantee that we will be done by your final end time and that’s all that matters.

Make sure you factor in lunch! It’s going to be a long day and waiting until the reception to eat isn’t the best idea. We’ve worked so many weddings where the bride has ordered sandwich trays for the day and they are so convenient, as you can grab a sandwich whenever is convenient and even wrap them up to take in the limo/party bus.

This blog is getting a bit long and I don’t want to bore you, so, I’ll wrap it up! NEVER EVER doubt that things will get hectic. The morning is going smoothly, hair & makeup is ahead of schedule and everyone is relaxed…what happens next is inevitable! It’s the last hour and it’s time to get dressed, pack things up and get out the door. You have all morning to hang out with your friends and you put off doing the little last minute things. DO NOT DO THIS! Haven’t written your vows yet? Still have to do table numbers or programs? If you haven’t done this prior to your wedding day, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU HAVE TO WALK OUT THE DOOR! Factor in time to get into your dress, putting your veil on and travel time to your next location. These last minor details can really determine whether you end up stressed or not. If you have a good photographer and beauty team, they’ve factored in cushion time as well, so all should fall into place.

Now, go get married and enjoy the fruits of your labor and live happily ever after!

Trial runs can be an important part of deciding on your perfect wedding day look. A bride may be deciding between leaving her hair all down, a full up-do, or something in between.  Working with your stylist to find the most flattering style to shape your face, what’s going to hold all day and night and what makes you feel simply beautiful can be a lot of fun and so rewarding when you have that “OHMYGOSHYES” moment!  This is why I LOVE doing hair.  To me it’s easy.  If you don’t like the first style, great, no big deal.  Let’s take it out and try something else.  With hair, the only illusion out there are these girls with crazy long, thick hair.  This is a simple fix.  Clip in extensions can be found at your local beauty supply and are so easy to work with.

On the opposite end of that spectrum is makeup. Doing a search for “wedding makeup” can be fun and downright inspiring. The internet is flooded with gorgeous pictures of girls with “flawless” skin.  Let’s say you’ve finally found the makeup look that you are ready to try out. You bring it into your makeup artist and sit back, enjoy a little bit of pampering and anticipate the big reveal of the new, more flawless version of yourself.  Except you look in the mirror and feel a little bit of disappointment.  Sure, you love the makeup.  Your eyes look big and bright and you love the lip color, but your skin doesn’t look like the picture.  You can still see the peach fuzz on your face, the fine lines around your eyes and (GASP) PORES!!!  Check out these gorgeous ladies…that actually have fine lines, a couple freckles and NO PHOTOSHOPPING!!

Guess what, ladies?  You’re human and so is your makeup artist.  We may be good at our job, but we don’t have magical powers.  Our makeup brushes aren’t wands that transform your “normal person” skin into “internet skin”.  These pictures that you find?  Lighting has been set up, filters have been added, editing has been done.

When you have the expectation that  your skin is basically going to look fake after your makeup artist has worked his/her magic, it’s unrealistic.  Cut us a break and even more so, cut yourself a break and realize even though you may not be perfect, YOU’RE GORGEOUS!!!

It’s Still Cold, but, Here’s What’s Hot for 2015

Good friend and wedding planner extraordinaire, Maura Bassman is our guest blogger this week!  This uber trendy girl knows what’s up for what’s trending this year.  Guess what?  Trendy can also be classic!  Read on for inspiration!

As we enter February, I find myself dreaming of warm weather, spring flowers and of course,

wedding season! I’ve gathered some of my favorite wedding trends of 2015 to share with the

most fabulous of Brides who are looking to incorporate top trends into their big day. Enjoy!

1. Miniature wedding cakes

These dainty cakes can be simple or complex but one thing is for sure … small is the new big!

2. Skin is in!

Although this trend may upset Grandma, there is no question that scandalous dresses are the

HOTTEST trend of 2015. Everything from low backs to midriff bearing dresses were all over the

runway during this year’s bridal fashion week.

3. Marquee lights

I love love love this trend! Marquee letters are an adorable accessory to complete the perfect barn OR ballroom reception.

This picture was taken from a styled shoot that Rollers & Rouge and I participated in at the

beginning of the year. Marquee letters from One Fine Day Boutique.

4. Unstructured up-dos

It’s no surprise this fashion forward trend is not going anywhere in 2015. Brides want to feel

comfortable on their wedding day with hair that looks easy, fun and low-key.

5. Purple, purple and more purple!

Purple is the smoking hot color of 2015. Finding creative ways to incorporate purple into your

bridal look is all the rage – nails, lips, eye makeup … you name it!

Taking Care of Yourself Doesn’t End at Yoga and Kale…

Hellooooo, Rollers and Rouge!  Thanks, Natalie- my high school band geek buddy (“I promise it was cool at our school!”  No, really.)- for allowing me to guest post!

A mere two and a half years ago, I had the wedding of my dreams- outside, in my childhood backyard, a slight chill in the air, at sunset.  It was great.  What wasn’t always great was the months leading up to it, can I get an amen?  Planning, reserving, ordering, fitting, meal plans, workout plans, showers, decisions!  I wouldn’t take any of it back, mind you, but wow was it tunnel vision in a thousand different directions in those days!  My main focus was on getting more shapely- through wise eating and a boot camp, and keeping my sanity- through continuing my regular yoga practice.

What I didn’t pay as much attention to was what was going on my body! I had a makeup trial run and ordered a crapton of new, expensive, AWESOME stuff.  But what I didn’t realize then was that I needed to be focusing as much on my beauty regime as my physical one.  I still workout 4-6 days a week, I still try to eat well, and now I prioritize the ingredients going on my face and body.

My newest obsession is the line at Beautycounter.  It’s proven safe by Mia Davis and made effective by Christy Coleman.  I love their Essentials line for my daily face care.  Add in a Lustro Oil with the moisturizer and I promise your life will be changed.  What I love about this line is that it’s the best out there- not only is it toxin-free and safe for you (check out their “Never List” of ingredients they promise to, well, never use), but it also makes your skin feel amazing.  And don’t get me started on their cosmetics line.  Because it’s a new company, new products are rolling out by the month! Their newest valentine-worthy product, Scarlet Lip Sheer, is somehow “the perfect red” for truly everyone that puts it on!  And if you don’t agree, they have a fantastic 30 and 60 day return policy!

Start taking care of yourself now, with a product that looks great and takes care of you!
